On Democracy

By Alex Linder

[ The following is from a forum thread posting. ]

democracy is a weasel word, as used by the powers that be. in one day we have seen the democratic will of the majority (defense of marriage act, simply tossed out by a US judge). and now we see a private company complying with a political authority's request to shut down a particular account because it was transmitting political opinions that are "illegal" in a democracy because they threaten the basis of that democracy. well, that's certainly an interesting paradox now, isn't it?: free expression of opinion isn't the basis of democracy but a threat to it! and should the wrong opinion make it all the way into law, when then we can simply have a king, a know-better, toss the law out on its ear and encode what the public should have voted as the law of the land. thus we see that democracy is not the rule of the people but rule in the name of the people...by a tiny minority of people that is at odds with the people. so democracy is rule by an elite, but not just an elite, an elite hostile to the majority of the people. thus the term 'democracy' is a verbal camouflage. it conceals the nature of the operation from those not paying attention. and this is why the powers that be can go on and on about democracy and the will of the people while always siding with the alien over the native, the sex deviant over the normal, and the censor over the free-speaker.
